Menopause…….the exercise

So, as I’ve said before – all the experts and things you read impress the point about some form of exercise being really good for us at all stages of life and especially when going through any stage of the menopause. Exercise doesn’t mean having to go to the gym 7 days a week for untold amount of hours……..there is more to life than that. I know I have already impressed the point of consistency whilst ensuring you have a balanced life, eating food and enjoying yourself.

The more I have been reading though about menopause and exercise, the more I understand why it is a necessity. It doesn’t have to be big show of exercise – simple walks are a great way to start. Apparently reducing body weight through exercise can help hot flushes (can’t verify that myself but it is something I have read!!). Exercising regularly, so walking, running (not my favourite) and some weight bearing exercises can all help to slow down the decline in your health and helping to maintain the possible risk of osteoporosis (and nobody wants osteoporosis!!!!)

I’ve heard people say “I don’t have time to do any exercise” – but there are so many things you can do while you are watching TV, being at home or at work. You don’t need expensive gyms or expensive gym equipment and there is an untold amount of exercise on youtube that you can look up and some that help you build gradually and increase your movements – making everything manageable.

I’ve said before my journey (hate that saying but unfortunately it is true!!!!!!!) is my own. I was very unfit and had no idea where to start – now I go to the gym three or four times a week and a bootcamp and try also to do yoga. I have made it all part of my routine……and yes sometimes I really don’t want to go but once I’ve been I feel really good about it. The group of women who all go to the gym, go for their own reasons – all different goals, all different shapes and sizes and all different abilities……..but supportive of each other. We all know how hard it can be!!!!

I would like to do as much as I can for myself going through post menopause – because I don’t know how long I’ll have it for and I would like not to be a decrepit old woman who has aches and pains and cannot walk far, lift or be in any way fit……I want everything that is opposite to that.

I have added some photos below of some of the lovely ladies who go to the gym
