How many times have you said to yourself “I just don’t have the time to do……..” I know I’ve done it countless of times before for a variety of things. Funny thing is when we really need too, we can find the time. I remember when I was doing my OU degree and I had to make time every night to sit at the computer or sit and read through books and notes. When I completed it I wondered where I managed to make the time. I also used to be involved in a youth theatre group – I was there every Friday and the run up to shows every Friday and Sunday and the week of the show every night. But it was also the hours spent during the week on a variety of different things for the group. I am no longer involved in this but I do sometimes think where on earth did I find the time to do all this.
I suppose it’s much the same for everything in life if you think about it. For me fitting in exercise can sometimes be a pain!!! But…..because I have been working on this for the past couple of years (not that I’m saying it gets any easier), I am trying to make it just a part of the things I do and part of my routine. Again I am not saying this is an easy option it definitely is not – sometimes it can be easier thinking to hell with it – I won’t bother!!!!
I also know a lot of folk say doing 10,000 steps a day is not actually “a thing”….but no matter your views – it keeps you moving. Because my job means sitting in front of a computer for a lot of the time and I don’t always get up and move (even though I set a timer on my watch!!) and therefore don’t always hit 10,000 steps daily – so to combat when I get home and after I get sorted for the next day – switch on a programme or listen to a podcast and march it out – before you know it half an hour or an hour has gone past and you are at 10,000. Kills two birds with one stone – moving and watching a tv programme you wanted to catch up on or listen to that podcast!! I also think it makes it harder at this time of year – so much going on, dark winter nights where you would rather just stay at home. Somehow the lighter nights make it easier to get out an and about.
At this time of year we are also dealing with parties and richer food and drink – the thing here is not being hard on yourself and unfortunately this time of year can bring its own pressures from others as well as ourselves – people can end up feeling low and down, but scientists have found exercise can help if you are feeling like this, even taking a walk to clear your head and get some fresh air (weather permitting – even then sometimes it’s nice walking in the cold or the rain!!!!). I know it’s not the answer for everyone and I have said this before, you still have to enjoy things and I doubt very much if I’ll be “marching it out” every night over the festive period. So remember and be kind to yourself ❤️
